Frequently Asked Dentistry Questions
At Bionica Dental Wellness of Delafield, we like to do things a little differently, so naturally, people ask questions. We’re more than happy to answer any of your questions when you call us. In the meantime, perhaps these answers will help.
What is holistic dentistry?
Traditional dentistry looks at the teeth and mouth like they are a standalone entity, while holistic dentistry considers the entire body when providing dental care. Our natural dentist takes a comprehensive approach at all times and only use safe, non-toxic materials for our treatments. By always considering the body as a whole, we’re able to give health-conscious patients much more than just a beautiful set of teeth.
What is Biomimetic Dentistry?
Biomimetic literally means “to mimic nature.” A biomimetic dentist is concerned with two things: (1) conserving as much tooth structure as possible and (2) mimicking the natural form and strength of teeth. Read Dr. Holinbeck’s article to learn more.
Can you replace my old amalgam fillings?
Yes. Many people look to Dr. Holinbeck to remove their defective amalgam (also called “silver”) fillings either because they don’t blend well with their smile, there is decay underneath the fillings, or the body is reacting negatively to the material. Because Dr. Holinbeck is a natural dentist who is certified to use the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART), she can keep you safe during the removal, and she can replace these old fillings with more biocompatible and esthetic alternatives.
Is there a way to straighten my teeth that doesn’t involve metal braces?
Yes, and it’s called Invisalign. Patients simply wear a series of clear, lightweight aligners that easily slip on and off the teeth. Each one places a small amount of pressure that slowly but surely brings the teeth into their ideal positions. The aligners themselves are practically invisible, and because they are removable, patients are able to maintain their normal diet and brushing habits throughout treatment.
What is the best option for replacing my missing teeth?
The answer will be different for every person, but in a lot of cases, Dr. Holinbeck would recommend metal-free dental implants. The research demonstrates that zirconia implants are both reliable and biocompatible. Learn more here.
What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone is made from pure oxygen and is an effective minimally-invasive way to eliminate microbes. Ozone/oxygen therapy can be used to treat teeth with cavities, after tooth extractions, with implant placement, during dental cleanings. There are many uses in dentistry. Talk to our natural dentist to learn more.
What is Zirconia?
Zirconia (also known as Zirconium Dioxide) is a ceramic element that is made from zirconium. After treating with heat and oxygen, this zirconium is converted to zirconia, and there are zero traces of metal. Zirconia has been proven to be extremely biocompatible. There is no known allergy risk, as there is with metals. Zirconia also doesn’t trap plaque and bacteria, which means healthy bone and gums around the restoration or implant.
